I haven’t been blogging due to loads of busy work with t3kboy.com. Our site is under major construction and our t3kboys are out to work. Recently, Apple announced iOS 5 that released with the iPhone 4s. The iPhone 4s syncs over iCloud to your Mac and iDevices. The MacBookPro released last week, with a bump in processor speed. I was on line for the 4s and couldn’t wait to get my hands on Siri. Siri is your own personal assistant. It will set up appointments, set reminders, play songs, give me facts, do my laundry– well, not yet. Personally, I didn’t care the iPhone 4s wasn’t an iPhone 5, because that’s just namesake. Tune in to the blog in the next few weeks. We’re expecting a lot from Apple.
Apple announces iOS 5 June 6 along with iCloud
iOS 5. We knew it was coming. So, it came. iOS 5 includes a bunch of new features for both iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch like:
Notification Center
Notification Center gives you all your alerts in one place. That one place lives at the top of your iDevice all the time. Just swipe down from the top and your notifications appear. These include Messages, Mail, Game Center friend requests, Facebook, Twitter, Google+, games, weather and more. The best of it is, all this is also right on your lockscreen. Notification Center is great too when you are in the middle of a game and have a really high-score and you don’t want to be distracted. That’s when you’ll be all over this. A window the size of the top of your screen appears, simultaneously while playing your game. It may be a text, email, or just a plain old voicemail. You have the option to tap on it or not, and if you choose to tap on it, your game is paused. That’s Notification Center.
iMessage
iMessage is great for those of you left buying hundreds of different texting apps for iPod Touch and iPad. iMessage basically adds free, unlimited texting to now all iDevices. But, theres a catch. You can only unlimited text people with iDevices that have iOS 5. Which means you have to pay to text others. Which is normal, but of course you didn’t pay for a phone, you payed for a iPod or an iPad. A great feature of iMessage is if your texting an iDevice you can optionally see if the other person read your text vice-versa. You can also see if the other person is typing. iMessage is great for some but soso for others.
Newsstand
Newsstand is a great newspaper, magazine, newsletter app for you iDevice. All you have to do is go into the Newsstand folder, hit store, subscribe to your favorite paper, and your done.
Reminders
Reminders is great for those who don’t always remember what they went to the supermarket for or what time that dinner is tonight. Well, this app will help. Reminders is the best at GPS notifications. What that is, is when you reach the supermarket, it will notify you what you went there for, with a list that pops up that you created earlier. The dinner thing you may think you mine as well use iCal. But, in this case there’s a good catch. Reminders is linked with iCal and iCloud(which I’m going over later). So when you make a reminder from when you leave work, which is leaving the location, also a feature of reminders, it will notify you to get home and get dressed for dinner at 7:00 pm tonight and also iCal will be ringing on your Mac when you get home. Two reminders. Half the work.
iOS 5 now has native Twitter which allows you to tweet a photo, email, or even a short video at the tips of your fingers. Notifications also includes Twitter, so you can be up to date, all the time.
Camera
Camera just got a load better, system-wide, and when I say system-wide, literally. Now, with iOS 5 installed you can access your camera from the lockscreen by just double tapping the home button. A little camera icon will appear next to “Slide to unlock.” When you tap on that it brings you to the camera app. All so simple. But the best comes next. You can edit your photos in Photos just as you do in iPhoto.
We continue iOS 5 and talk about iCloud in Part 2

Safari Performance

iPad Side Switch
Personal Hotspot for iPhone 4
iPad 2
The iPad 2 is awesome with a few small exceptions. The best part is the Smart Cover. You can stand up the iPad however you want. If you want to watch a movie, play a game, type an email, edit a movie or song, etc, the Smart Cover… well…. is just smart! The weirdest part is that the mockups I blogged earlier turned out to be the real iPad 2!
I was surprised it didn’t get a retina display, but it doesn’t matter since the iPad 3 is a long way off. The cameras are OK. And what I mean by OK is pretty bad. They’re not good in low light and are grainy anyway in good, bright light. The iPad also comes in white now which is great if you didn’t like black.
What I love is the form factor and the speed. Now, with an A5 processor, the iPad 2 is the fastest tablet out there. Also, Apple literally chopped the rounded back off the iPad and made it flat! That’s great if you want to play a game on your desk and don’t want it to rock back and forth.
For those who never have gotten an iDevice, this is a great one to start with.

Verizon iPhone = OK
The Verizon iPhone. Not the best.
Downs:
• It has different dimensions than the iPhone 4 (not a biggy but still different)
• You can’t browse Safari while on the phone.
• Won’t be released the same time as the next iPhone.
Ups:
• It’s a Verizon iPhone!
• Apple’s stock flew through the roof.
• People who are on Verizon don’t have to change carriers and are getting a great phone.
• More hype in the Apple Store (good and bad)
• It has tethering but iOS 4.3 will come with it.
Overall, it has the same features as the AT&T iPhone.

What’s In The Box?
A day ago, Apple shipped thousands and thousands of white wrapped boxes to every Apple Store in the world. But the true question is: What lay hiding in those boxes?
Rumors say these could be a new MacBook Pro lineup or an iPad 2 or both. But, the most popular answer is something no one thought of until the latest iPod Nano was released. The iPhone Nano.
The iPhone Nano is a concept that consists of an iPhone half the size of it’s regular dimensions and only $200.
But, this is just a rumor.
The iPad 2 is being announced March 2nd. So that means those white boxes are probably not iPads.
March 2nd check on the blog for updates on what’s going on.
